Sandec is the Department of Water and Sanitation in Developing Countries at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag). Sandec aims to:
- develop, provide and facilitate the implementation of new concepts and technologies in water supply and environmental sanitation,
- increase research capacity and professional expertise in low and middle-income countries in the field of water supply and environmental sanitation,
- raise awareness and enhance professional expertise in high-income countries for water supply and environmental sanitation issues in low and middle-income countries.
Sandec's activities centre on problems of sustainable development in economically less developed countries. Its mandate is to assist in developing appropriate and sustainable water and sanitation concepts and technologies adapted to the different physical and socio-economic conditions prevailing in developing countries.
